Race for the Soul sets out to raise awareness of a different cause, one that has an infinite lasting effect, one that could reach someone in need, someone hurting, someone in need of a Savior.

In 2007, 100 runners and walkers participated in the Inaugural Race for the Soul and helped raise $3,000 for our beneficiary, Better Way Ministries, a ministry and mission in downtown Columbus. This was the only fund raising event Better Way had for the year and it allowed them to provide hundreds of people with the assistance they needed while also providing them the opportunity to hear about Christ. On race day, Wanda Campbell, President of Better Way, shared a very rewarding story about a group of homeless people who had asked her for tents to sleep in outside. At first she thought they didn’t have the available funds to help them until she remembered about the money coming in from the race.  In 2008, in the 2nd Annual Race for the Soul, over 200 runners and walkers raised over $7,000 for both The Better Way and Life 2 Orphans.

The 3rd Annual Race for the Soul 4-miler will be at 9am on October 3, 2009 at Sharon Woods Park in Westerville. Registration is open for the first 500 race participants, running or walking, the 4 mile multipurpose trail.  By the way, the OSU @ Indiana game doesn’t start until 7pm.  Also, Chick-fil-a will be providing us Chicken Biscuits for the post race and Cole Family Chiropractic will be conducting post race massage!

100% of the entry fees go to this year’s beneficiaries:

Better Way Ministries (thebetterway.webs.com) is a street ministry and mission work founded by Pastor Steve Campbell and his wife, Wanda. Better Way stands as a place of hope to homeless and poor in the Short North area of the Columbus inner city. Race for the Soul is the only fund-raising event of the year for Better Way.

The Stowe Center (homepage.mac.com/mbrooksjapan/stowe/) Serving Other's in Christ's Name - People in the inner city are crying out for help. They are hurting, they are lonely, and they have little hope. Perhaps living in poverty, or even homeless, they often suffer violence. People are looking for someone, or something that will take away their pain and suffering. They are searching, looking for a way out.  The Stowe Center has several ministries including free Dental services, ESL, Food Pantry, Soup Kitchen, Toy Chest, Tutorinig, Job Corps, and Worship.

Thirst Relief International (thirstrelief.org) is responding to the worldwide water crisis by helping thousands of families each year gain access to safe water through simple, low-cost means. A locally manufactured biosand filter or a well repaired by nationals has the power to radically improve the health and well-being of an individual, a family, a community.
